This article will take you through the steps involved in setting up your new MIS integrated Carousel Platinum subscription. Anyone with Owner or Admin permissions can complete the steps in this guide.
The process for configuring a Secondary School and a Primary School are very similar, where there is a difference it is indicated in the guide.
Accessing the ADMIN area - navigate to the control centre of your ADMIN profile.
Adding Teachers - choose colleagues who will need access to the Platinum account.
Adding Subjects - indicate to Carousel which classes should be picked up from the MIS.
Syncing your Data - pull in the classes and students
Reviewing your Class Lists - check that the students, classes and teacher associations have pulled in as expected.
Inviting Teachers - send invitations so that colleagues can access their account.
Sharing Support Material - support teachers in getting started with Carousel.
Accessing the ADMIN area
- Navigate to the ADMIN area of your account by selecting MY ACCOUNT from the dropdown menu in the top right corner of your account.
- Where a user will only see their profile, account Owners and Admin will be able to see four tabs:
Adding Teachers
- Select the USERS tab.
- To add teachers individually use the ADD USER button to select members of staff by email address.
- Click ADD to confirm.
- The teacher will appear in the USERS table.
- To add all teachers (e.g. for whole school accounts), select ADD ALL TEACHERS.
- 'Teacher Name', role and permission status can be edited by clicking on the action menu (3 dots) beside the name in the USERS table and choosing EDIT.
A full guide to Managing Users, including troubleshooting tips, can be found here.
Adding Subjects
- Select the SUBJECTS tab.
Secondary
- In the left hand column activate any 'Carousel' subjects from the list that you may want to use Question Banks for.
- In the right hand column, select any and all subjects synced from the MIS that may relate to the subject.
- Multiple MIS subjects can be linked (mapped) to a single Carousel subject.
Primary
- Primary accounts are populated with the students and registration groups during onboarding.
- Optional: If you have class groups in your MIS as well as registration groups, you can follow the steps above to sync these.
A full guide to Adding Subjects can be found here.
Syncing your Data
- Select the STUDENTS tab.
- Press the SYNC button (you may need to refresh your page to make this visible).
- Wait 2-3 minutes and then refresh the page.
- The SYNC time will update and the STUDENTS table will populate with the classes and student names.
Primary
- The account will only need to be synced if you have chosen to add subjects.
Reviewing your Class Lists
- Check the information that has pulled in from the MIS as expected.
- Where there are 2 or more students with identical names, Carousel will have appended their surname with a number to ensure their login is unique. These should be identified so the student and class teachers can be made aware.
- Any changes to student, staff or class details will need to be made in the MIS. Carousel will pull in these updates overnight.
Inviting Teachers
- Select the USERS tab.
- Invitations can be sent individually via the actions menu (3 dots) beside the users name.
- Multiple invitations can be sent simultaneously by ticking the boxes on the left hand side and pressing INVITE SELECTED.
- The invitation link is valid for 72 hours. Teachers who miss accepting the invitation in this window will need to be re-invited using either method above.
- If SSO with Google or Microsoft has been set up and enabled for your account, teachers will be able to use those credentials to login when they have accepted their invitation.
The user status will appear under the heading 'STATUS', and can be:
- ‘NOT INVITED YET’ means that an invitation needs to be sent in order to add this user to the Platinum subscription.
- 'SENDING' means the invitation has not been delivered, check the email address is correct if this status does not update after a few minutes.
- ‘INVITED’ means that the invitation has been sent but the user has not yet logged in.
- ‘ACTIVE’ means that the user has logged in.
