There are three ways of seeing who has completed a quiz:
- Using the COMPLETED column on the Teacher Dashboard
- Through the ANALYSE RESULTS pages.
In both cases, there are slightly different rules as to which students show up and what status they are given. The status will also change once you start marking This help article explains what you'll see in each situation.
1. The COMPLETED column.
Before you start marking, students have one of four statuses:
- NOT STARTED - student has not yet started the quiz
- ANSWERING - students has started but not yet finished the quiz
- MARKING - student has finished the quiz and is marking or on the marking summary page
- SUBMITTED - student has clicked SUBMIT on the marking summary page to complete the quiz
Only students who have the status of SUBMITTED are counted as COMPLETED.
The following screenshot gives an example of how these statuses appear when you click to see the COMPLETED statistics for the sample quiz referenced above (1/8 COMPLETED). Only one of the eight students has the status of SUBMITTED, which is why the COMPLETED column is showing "1/8":
After the teacher starts marking, the statuses change so that everyone is either NOT STARTED or SUBMITTED. Anyone who was in the ANSWERING or MARKING state will automatically be moved to a SUBMITTED status, as shown in the following screenshot:
2. The ANALYSE RESULTS page.
The ANALYSE RESULTS pages include all students who have finished answering a quiz, even if they're still in marking mode and haven't yet clicked SUBMIT.
We do this because we know students sometimes forget to click SUBMIT from the marking summary page, and if that happens we want you still to be able to see their results. That said, we recommend that you ask your students to click SUBMIT when they finish marking a quiz so that it is clear that they have completed it.
The following screenshot shows the analysis page for the same quiz referenced above before a teacher starts marking. Now we can see results for two students: ANNA A (who has the SUBMITTED status) and ADAM B (who has the MARKING status). Elena C does not show up yet as she has the status of ANSWERING. The rest of the class has the status of NOT STARTED so also don't show up.
After a teacher starts marking, all results are locked and students who were in ANSWERING and MARKING modes are converted to SUBMITTED. Any answers submitted by students in ANSWERING mode will be recorded, while any unanswered questions will automatically be marked as incorrect.
The below shows the ANALYSIS table for the same sample described above after a teacher has marked the quiz. Elena C is now included - though as she had not answered any questions correctly at the point marking started, her results show as all incorrect.
