This article is about using the Analytics tool to analyse quiz, study pack and whiteboard usage - you can see more information about analysing quiz scores here.
Carousel Platinum usage analytics allow users to track data on quiz completion and more across Year Groups, Subjects and Teachers, and can be filtered by date range.
To use the Usage Analysis tool:
Go to the ‘ANALYSIS’ tab and then select the 'USAGE' tab:
There are five selectors that you can use to refine your data table:
In: Selects the Academic Year from which to analyse the data.
Group By: Groups Quiz, Study Pack and Whiteboard data by Year, Teacher, Class, Subject.
And: Allows you to combine a second grouping of Year, Teacher, Class, Subject to your initial 'Group By' selection for quizzes, Study Packs and Whiteboard Quizzes - for example, if you Group By Subject And Teacher the data table will be organised first by Subject and then by Teacher. You can leave this blank and Group By one category only.
NEW! Date Interval: Defines the date range for the selected data.
Aggregated: When 'Yes' is selected (default) the table shows data aggregated according to the 'Group By/And' selection. If 'No' is selected data will additionally be shown at the individual student level (for Whiteboard usage the data will indicate if the student's class has been set a Whiteboard quiz).
If the ‘Heatmap’ option is activated, the chart will show the results in graduated colours for quick visual identification. The lightest colours will show the highest results, and the darkest the lowest:
Each column can be filtered by clicking on the cog icon:
In the example above, the usage data is grouped by 'Subject' and 'Year', with the aggregation set to 'Yes'. By using, for example, the 'Year' column filter, you can then select a specific year group to look at in isolation. If the aggregation is set to 'No', thereby showing individual student data, the 'Name' columns can be used to filter for an individual student.
What the table shows
The table is divided in three section, with data about QUIZZES on the left, STUDY PACKS in the centre and WHITEBOARD USAGE on the right:
-
QUIZZES:
- # Quizzes Set is the number of quizzes that have been set in the selected date range for the chosen grouping (e.g. Mr Smith's Chemistry classes in the 23/24 Academic Year).
- Completion % is the percentage of those quizzes that were completed by the students to whom they were assigned.
- Avg Qns/Quiz is the average number of questions per quiz for the number of quizzes set.
-
STUDY PACKS:
- # Study Packs Set is the number of Study Packs that have been set in the selected date range for the chosen grouping (e.g. Mr Smith's Chemistry classes in the 23/24 Academic Year).
- Quizzes Created is the total number of quizzes that all students combined have created from the given study packs.
- # Qns Answered is the number of questions that have had answers submitted across those study packs.
-
WHITEBOARDS:
- # Whiteboards Set is the number of Whiteboard quizzes set in the selected date range for the chosen grouping (e.g. Mr Smith's Chemistry classes in the 23/24 Academic Year).
- Avg Qns/Quiz is the average number of questions per Whiteboard quiz for the number of whiteboard quizzes set.
The example below has the data grouped by Subject and Teacher with a date range of the entire academic year. The example also has the aggregation filter set to 'Yes'.
TOTAL:
The 'TOTAL' row for QUIZZES tells you:
- # QUIZZES SET: The combined total number of quizzes set as per the selected date range and chosen groupings (e.g the total number of quizzes set by a Teacher across all Subjects in the selected academic year)
- COMPLETION %: The overall percentage of quizzes that have been completed as per the selected date range and chosen groupings
- AVG QNS/QUIZ: The overall average number of questions per quiz across the total number of quizzes set as per the selected date range and chosen groupings
The 'TOTAL' row for STUDY PACKS tells you:
- # STUDY PACKS SET: The combined total of Study Packs set as per the date range selected and chosen groupings
- # QUIZZES CREATED: The combined total of quizzes created across all the Study Packs set as per the selected date range and chosen groupings
- #QUESTIONS ANSWERED: The combined total of questions answered across all the Study Packs set as per the selected date range and chosen groupings
The 'TOTAL' row for WHITEBOARD tells you:
- #WHITEBOARDS SET: The combined total of Whiteboard Quizzes set as per your the selected date range and groupings
- AVG QNS/QUIZ: The overall average of number of questions per quiz across total quizzes set as per the selected date range and groupings
Example:
Selecting no aggregation, you will see data for each individual student, organised by your selected grouping.
For example, if grouped by Subject and Teacher, the table will appear in alphabetical order from your 'Grouped By' selection of Subject, and organise the corresponding teachers in alphabetical order too. Where you have students in multiple classes, the student will appear in multiple lines per the grouping (i.e Aaron A would have a row of data corresponding to his Chemistry class with Mr Smith and his Maths class with Ms Mohamed).
Hints and Tips
- The totals and averages will be calculated from the data in the table. The data in the table will be determined by the groupings, date range and filters applied.
- To see a breakdown of individual student data for quiz and Study Pack engagement, set the aggregation filter to 'No'.
- Note: You may see a discrepancy in the aggregated and disaggregated percentages. The disaggregated average is a simple unweighted average (ie the total sum of the numbers divided by the number of rows).
- Columns can be sorted by clicking on the 'sort' icon. If more than one column is sorted a number will be shown to show the priority order and an arrow will indicate if the order is ascending or descending.
